What Would Be In Your Documentary About Detroit?

Yesterday, we offered our how-to guide for making your own documentary about Detroit.

Now our partners at the Public Insight Network want your thoughts. What would you include in your Detroit documentary?

I would include the “other” side of Detroit which is rarely profiled.  The beautiful historical neighborhood (Sherwood Forest, Palmer Woods, Boston Edison, etc.) and the racial diversity in those areas.  Too many people I know are shocked to come to our neighborhood and see beauty and racial diversity.  I would also speak to some of the great schools and the amazing people they produce (I’m a Cass Tech Grad).  Bottomline:  Show the positive side of Detroit for the World to see…I don’t want people feeling sorry for me because I live in Detroit based on what they see in the media.

I am working on a within neighborhood and a cross neighborhood documentary. I’m a native Detroiter. I’m looking forward to sharing the story of the people! The other Detroit docs I’ve seen have really truly encouraged me, and I hope more Detroiters tell their own stories.

The stunning diversity of activities in different parts of the city, like the weekly drum circle at the holistic healing center off Woodward. No one expects a bonfire and drum circle just off a major thoroughfare.

I live in Switzerland now and even over here we only see articles reflecting the negatives parts of the city. Would love to see this change…
