Changing Gears goes on the air and on the Web Monday with a full week of reports on reinventing the Industrial Midwest.

MONDAY: Reporters Dan Bobkoff, Niala Boodhoo and Kate Davidson present The Film Factory, a look at the race across the Midwest to land movie deals. You’ll hear Mayor Daley, Clint Eastwood and the family that got a visit from Wes Craven.

On the Web, we have a list of movies that star the Midwest.

And Michael Nagrant debuts Reinvention Recipes, exclusive videos on restaurants giving a new twist to classic dishes. This week: Chicago’s Smoque BBQ. Reinvention_Recipes(2)

TUESDAY: Bobkoff reports on Sandusky, Ohio, kicking off a series called Our Towns.

WEDNESDAY: Davidson looks at Reversal of Fortune, the experience of “two tiers” inside auto plants who make sharply less than their fellow workers — and family members.

THURSDAY: Boodhoo explores the challenges of dismantling and reviving brownfield sites.

FRIDAY: A regional call-in program broadcast on Chicago Public Radio, Michigan Radio and ideastream, looking at “Big Cities, Small Places.” It’s co-hosted by veteran NPR broadcaster Katherine Lanpher and Changing Gears Senior Editor Micki Maynard and will air at 3 pm ET/2 pm CT, with a live chat here at We’ll be back with more details, including how you can participate.
