Ford is recalling various versions of the Ford Kuga due to the risk of fire. Which variants the recall includes and which construction period it is exactly.

In the engine compartment of the popular SUV Kuga (14.286 approved specimens in the first half of the year, eleventh place among the best-selling models) it can start to burn. That’s why Ford is calling Germany-wide 17.360 Cars with the 2.5 liter petrol engine back, which is installed in both the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and the full hybrid (FHEV) version. Affected are vehicles built between August 2nd

and the 14. June 2022 rolled off the assembly line at the Spanish plant in Valencia.

Engine damage can lead to fire

A connecting rod bearing failure could damage the engine block or oil pan, which could cause oil and/or fuel vapor to escape. “Due to the design of the engine underbody protection and the active grille shutter system (Active Grille Shutter), oil or fuel can collect under the engine cover under certain operating conditions,” said a Ford spokesman for the “kfz-rueckrufe” portal.

The flammable substances could migrate to hot parts under the hood, resulting in a fire, melting of components or smoke.

Ford estimates the risk of a fire to be very low; three cases are known throughout Europe. At a workshop appointment, however, additional drainage holes are drilled into the underbody protection. This is to prevent oil or fuel from accumulating there.
